Rob Brucker, Graduate Student

Rob Brucker joined the lab in May 2009 to study the interconnections between microbiology, immunology, development, and evolution. As Nasonia wasps are an emerging genetic and symbiosis model system, any study of this animal will require a detailed understanding of the symbionts that afect this host's fitness, ecology, immnuity, and development. Rob is using the three species of Nasonia vitripennis, N. giraulti, and N. longicornis to characterize (i) the microbiota of closely related species, (ii) the immune pathways involved in regulating the microbiota, and (iii) how both these entites breakdown during speciation.
