Genus: Nasonia

Nasonia giraulti is a parasitoid of many Dipteran species found in eastern North America. Known as jewel wasp, this genus of wasp stings and lays its eggs in the pupae of various flies. There are currently four described species in the Nasonia genus, N. vitripennis, N. longicornis, N. giraulti and N. onida.

Morphology:

The wasp is 2.5mm in length and has been described as a free-living wasp that feeds and pupae of Diptera. The wasp is considered to be an endoparasite, as it develops inside the host pupae. Before depositing their eggs, the Nasonia wasp stings the host pupae.

Immunity:

Nasonia giraulti is an incomplete genome, hence not included as a part of any search on IIID. However, we have provided the nucleotide information for our users below.
