Innate Immunity Pathways

Humoral Responses

The humoral response of insects is primarily activated by physical injury. Humoral immunity includes the secretion of soluble factors into the open-circulatory system. Many of these factors are secreted by the fat body, the insect homolog of the mammalian liver. Humoral response genes are responsible for wound healing, hemolymph coagulation, and melanization.
